Liza Malamut regularly appears as a sackbut specialist with the country's premier early music groups.  Recent engagements have included performances with the Handel & Haydn Society, Apollo's Fire, Boston Baroque, Boston Camerata, Music of the Baroque, Seraphic Fire, The Sebastians, Trinity Baroque, the Boston Early Music Festival, Piffaro, Baroque Orchestration X, and many more.  The 2016-2017 season brings performances with Boston Camerata, Mercury! The Orchestra Redefined, Piffaro, Artek, Grand Harmonie, and others.

Liza holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied trombone with John Marcellus. She went on to study with Don Lucas at Boston University, where she earned her Master of Music degree.  Liza is currently a candidate for the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in Historical Trombone at Boston University, under the tutelage of Dr. Greg Ingles.  You can read about her research here.

As a modern trombonist, Liza was a finalist in the International Trombone Festival Competition for Alto Trombone in Denmark.  She performed with the Buffalo Symphony, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and at many other venues across America while touring with the musical outreach group, Tales & Scales.  She continues to participate actively in the Boston freelance scene.
